NEW YORK, March 6, 2020 — Tutor.com, a pioneer in online education, reports that the company is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
To salute the company's longstanding as well as current partners, Tutor.com has planned a yearlong series of events at trade shows and conferences. The celebration kicked off on February 26–28 at the Public Library Association Conference in Nashville.
There, Tutor.com staffers welcomed 500 conference attendees to the company's exhibit booth and hosted an awards ceremony at which the staffers presented Tutor.com Innovator Awards to several of the company's inaugural clients. Honored for their libraries' willingness to embrace an innovative but new service during Tutor.com’s early years were representatives from the Burlingame and San Jose Public Libraries in California, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library in North Carolina, and the King County Library System in Washington. Tutor.com will host similar festivities celebrating other institutional partnerships at upcoming conferences.
Incorporated on February 24, 2000, Tutor.com was the first education services company in the U.S. to use the internet to connect students with screened, qualified, expert tutors and to deliver personalized, one-on-one instruction on demand.
Within a year of incorporation, Tutor.com began offering its services through institutional partners, the first group of which was local public libraries, followed by state libraries, then higher education institutions.
Now, Tutor.com provides tutoring online to communities of learners through its partnerships with thousands of colleges and universities, K–12 school districts, state and local libraries, corporate employee benefit programs, nonprofit organizations, and the U.S. Department of Defense and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance. Tutor.com services are also available to consumers under the company's affiliate business, The Princeton Review®.
Joshua Park, CEO of Tutor.com and The Princeton Review, saluted the Tutor.com team for achieving this 20th anniversary milestone. "Tutor.com began as an innovator in education services, using the then-novel highway of the internet to deliver interactive homework help and instruction to students when they needed it and from quality instructors. The company's inspired use of technology was key to this success, and Tutor.com continues to lead in the field with innovative applications and programs. But it is the dedication of our staff, the talent of our tutors, and the ensuing trust our customers have had in our brand that have formed the enduring base of Tutor.com's growth and success."
Sandi White, Vice President and General Manager, Tutor.com Institutional Programs, noted, "Every day, several thousand students in middle school, high school, college, and beyond visit Tutor.com to get help in a wide variety of subjects for which the company's 3,000 vetted and qualified tutors are available 24/7 for on-demand tutoring, scheduled tutoring sessions, and drop-off writing and question review. We are continually expanding our services to meet the needs of today's learners living in a digital world. In 2020, we will be releasing the eighth iteration of our online classroom, a new mobile experience, and additional tutoring subjects and services."
"As we begin our 21st year, we salute the students, parents, librarians, teachers, administrators, and corporate leaders who have chosen Tutor.com," said White. "We are continually encouraged by the trust our customers have placed in us to provide highly effective academic support in a safe online environment. We are equally heartened by the support we have received from the thousands of tutors who have chosen Tutor.com as their link to the millions of people they have tutored.
